Abadan demonstrations continue. They lie by saying America is our enemy.

A week ago, protests in the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan were not calmed down as dozens were killed when a commercial building under construction collapsed in the city.

These protests have gone from demanding accountability to resounding political slogans, such as "Leave Khamenei" and key rulers, referring to Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and president Ibrahim Raisi.

The marches also renewed monday night, as many areas joined the way in with Abadan, while the death toll rose to 34 as searches for the missing continued.

In Bushehr (south), many protesters shouted in solidarity with Abadan, saying "they lie when they say America is our enemy, the enemy is here," referring to the Iranian authorities.

As the voices in Naziabad came, shouting "Death to Khamenei".

Many protesters also turned out in the Kurdish city of Kermanshah, in solidarity with Abadan al-Arabiya.

In Abadan, a city that still receives the remains of its loved ones buried in the rubble of the collapsed building, demonstrators chanted security and tear gas, calling "Guns, tanks and explosives will not work, let the mullahs leave," referring to the country's ruling religious regime.

Iranian authorities have been alerted in recent days, cutting off the Internet from some cities, and have also waved the prosecution of what they described as "rumor promoters," fearing the return of the spectre of fuel protests that engulfed the country in 2019, especially since the Abadan incident came as the spark of anger over the high prices of bread, wheat derivatives and the high cost of other food commodities has not yet been extinguished.

The collapse of the building recalled the disaster of the Blasco building in central Tehran in early 2017. A 15-storey building collapsed as firefighters worked to put out a fire that broke out, killing 22 people, including 16 firefighters.

He also recalled what Abadan herself witnessed in 1978, when a large fire engulfed the Rex Cinema, killing hundreds.
