A 16-year-old boy was shot dead by the Israeli army during clashes in Nablus, the Palestinian Health Ministry said Wednesday.
"Ghaith Rafik Yameen, 16, was killed by live occupation bullets in his head in the tomb of Yusuf in Nablus," the ministry said in a statement.
The eastern area of Nablus, where Jews believe the tomb of the Prophet Joseph exists in what Palestinians say is a shrine to a sheikh, witnessed clashes between Israeli forces who entered to protect Jews who occasionally enter for religious rituals at the site and Palestinian youths.
Video footage showed a number of Palestinians firing stones and fire at Israeli occupying forces in the vicinity of Yusuf's tomb.
The Palestinian Red Crescent in Nablus said its crews dealt with two live gunshot wounds to the head during clashes between youths and Israeli forces.
He said in a statement that crews also dealt with 19 rubber bullet injuries and 67 gas asphyxiation cases.
It was not immediately clear whether the victim was a participant in the clashes, nor was there a statement from the Israeli army on the incidents.
