Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah on Tuesday assured his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that the kingdom is ready to make the necessary efforts to contribute to a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
He also stressed Saudi Arabia's position based on international law and its support for efforts to reach a political solution that would end the crisis and achieve security and stability.
During the Russian minister's visit to Riyadh, the two sides also discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen them, as well as to exchange views on the latest developments in the region and the world and efforts towards them, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The meeting was attended by The Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati, Undersecretary of State for Multiple International Affairs Dr. Abdul Rahman al-Rassi, and Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Russian Federation Abdul Rahman al-Ahmad.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Riyadh from Bahrain for an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
