Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said Monday that he must prepare for a possible electricity crisis this summer.
This was made in a statement issued by the prime minister's information office, the official Iraqi News Agency reported.
Al-Kadhimi chaired a meeting of the Energy Committee in the presence of a number of ministers, the statement said, adding that the meeting was devoted to discussing the status of electricity and overcoming obstacles related to it.
During the meeting, Al-Kadhimi called for continued efforts and work at the highest pace to provide electricity to citizens.
He stressed the need to prepare for any potential crisis during the summer and to provide possible solutions to address it quickly.
Adel Karim, head of the Ministry of Electricity, reviewed the ministry's energy savings and production increases.
The results of the Ministry of Electricity delegation's visit to Iran were also reviewed to discuss the import of Iranian gas.
