A secret telegram from the Baghdad Operations Room warned of plans to bomb the Green Zone and the Iraqi capital's airport with Katyusha rockets and marching aircraft.
The chamber did not specify who was planning it, but said outlaw groups were behind the planning of possible attacks.
Dozens of attacks
The Green Zone in the center of the Iraqi capital has been the target of dozens of attacks in recent years by militias allied with Iran.
Militias close to Iran usually claim responsibility for attacking presidential areas, diplomatic mission headquarters, u.S. training forces and the international coalition.
The dilemma of forming a government
In another context, Iraqi institutions continue to be paralysed as a government cannot be formed more than seven months after the legislative elections.
Pending an end to the impasse, outgoing President Barham Saleh, a candidate for a new term, and Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi continue to run the business.
